Ian M. Thompson, MD, MS, FAAOS

Dr. Ian Thompson established Springfield Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Institute in 2005 shortly after completing his sports medicine and arthroscopy fellowship in Taos, New Mexico. He received his undergraduate degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and his medical education at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, followed by an orthopedic surgery residency at the Medical Education and Research Center at Michigan State University,

Dr. Thompson is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (FAAOS). He is an active member of the Ohio State Medical Association, the American Orthopaedic Society of Sports Medicine, the Arthroscopic Association of North America, and the Clark County Medical Society. His expertise has allowed him to participate as a manuscript reviewer for the Foot and Ankle International Journal.

Dr. Thompson specializes in conditions of the knee and shoulder, general orthopedics, and sports medicine. He currently serves as team doctor to Catholic Central High School. He previously served as team doctor for the University of New Mexico Highland, Urbana University, and Springfield High School.

In 2011, he won the Ohio Athletic Trainers' Association (OATA) Team Physician of the Year Award.

Dr. Thompson and his wife Lori reside in Springfield with their four children, Abigail, Claire, Charlie, and Joey. He enjoys spending time with friends and family, especially when it involves swimming, boating, or snow skiing.
